Professional development is required for renewal of Level II licensure and must be based upon an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) developed by the educator after assessing his/her teaching performance and student data.

    Licensure for the State of Michigan
    1. Provisional Certificate (Initial)
    Valid for 6 years
    During this term must acquire 18 semester hours of coursework
    May renew for up to 3 years with the completion of 10 semester hours in a planned program at an approved teacher preparation institution
    A second 3 year renewal require completion of 18 semester hours in a planned program at an approved teacher preparation institution
    2. Professional Education Certificate (Advanced)
    Valid for up to 5 years
    Requires completion of 18 semester hours of study after the issuance of the Provisional certificate
    Requires completion of Michigan's reading requirement (6 semester hours of teaching reading for elementary teachers or 3 semester hours for secondary teachers and 3 years of successful teaching experience
