Teacher Certification

Indiana Initial Teaching License/Certification

Standard Indiana Teacher Certification/Original Teacher Certification - 5 Years; Renewable

- Complete a teacher preparation program from an accredited institution.
- Pass the following examinations:
- The Praxis I Test of Basic Skills
- The Praxis II Content Test related to your subject area
- File your application through the university where you received your Teacher Training.

- Requirements:
- A bachelor degree or higher in the field you wish to teach.
- Have five or more years of experience in an occupation related to the field you wish to teach.
- Pass Praxis I basic skills tests through the ETS.
- Pass Praxis II through the ETS or satisfy content educational requirements through 24 credit hours for your core academic subject or earn you master's degree in core subject.

Indiana Standard Certification Renewal

- Complete 6 semester hours of renewal coursework at an accredited institution. OR,
- Complete 90 Continuing Renewal Units (CRU's). In order to renew your license with CRU's, you must hold a Master's Degree or have at least 36 graduate semester hours completed. OR,
- Enroll in a Professional Growth Plan (PGP) and complete required coursework.
